These guards eliminate the steel on steel contact of the “J hook” boom cradle and the boom nesting tube. Over time the nesting hook and boom score and become rough as the hook wears away at the boom. This  marring causes the boom to bind as it seats or lifts from the cradle.

The poly boom guards are made from a soft material and seat securely in the J-hook cradle while still allowing the boom to slide easily into the proper nesting position, as well as, providing a smooth and easy release out of the nesting position.
